The Importance of Good Health

by June Carr

The most essential thing on this earth is our health and well being and we should do everything that we can to preserve it. Certainly other things are crucial also, we need an ample amount of income to live in society, we require love and shelter in order to continue a vigorous level of life, but in one author's thinking, nothing is as important than our health and well being. In order for me to make such a bold statement, I'll of course offer a bit more in-depth in insights.

While my opinions are my own, they do have some substance and are not flights of fancy. I have (or had) a very close friend whose focus in his life the acquiring of wealth, this certainly did not cause him to be a bad individual, quite the opposite, many times he came to me in times of need with a helping hand, today he has departed this earth, he lost his health and shortly his life. This of course is a rare example and by no means do I want to paint this piece with darkness, rather inspiration.

This is not an article for spiritual topics, yet I believe unquestionably that the essense that is us continues and that this this life is asimply a preparation for the next; but I want to assure you I want to enjoy my life 110%, taking pleasure in every moment, breathing in the air, feeling the excitement of the blowing wind in my hair and the brilliance of a colorful twilight. When it's my time to go, I'll move unafraid to my maker, but until then, I will continue to journey boldly across this earth and I can only do this with my health.

One reader wondered! 'Why is health more important than wealth?'

In my humble opinion, with our health and wellbeing we can make every effort, we can earn a living, we can write resumes, go on career interviews, go after our dreams, tackle new projects, live up to and exceed our dreams, but only if we possess the strength and well being to persevere. As I sit here pondering this article, I'm looking across the water, it is peaceful and serene and my thoughts are free to roam and soar, but my thoughts are fired by my body and my body by healthy nutrition, staying active and a optimistic outlook on my life; once more, all this happens because of good health.

Every evening as I start to close my eyes, I think affimative thoughts, I observe deep breathing, I communicate with God (yes I believe He exists), and thank him for my health, but I do not take it for granted, I work to maintain fitness. Every day (and I'm not an early riser, favoring late night writing) I'll perform stretching exercises and lite aerobics to increase my metabolism. I'm lucky, I do have good genetics, my mom lived to a ripe old age and my grandmother nearly the same, I learned these routines from them and I do not take them, nor my health for granted.

I imagine I'm on a campaign, having recently lost two close friends; two friends I had much regard for, but two friends who are now gone from this world. I do not grieve for them; feeling they now have transended, but I miss them and wish they were still here with me.

If there is any moral to this, it is simply to be grateful for the life that is given you and to treasure it. While I can give you no unambiguous clue as to what will occur when we leave this life, I can tender this counsel.

Live your life to the fullest, and appreciate every breath that you breathe.
