Self Confidence Is A Mind-set That Can Be Yours
Self-confidence is often defined as the ability to trust oneself and one's gifts. This trait is integral to an individual's accomplishments in life. This quality allows people to understand that they are worthwhile and that they are capable of succeeding in their endeavors. Even persons who do not possess this characteristic can learn how to build their self confidence.
Without this characteristic, many persons become powerless to accomplish life goals. They are often ineffective in interpersonal interactions, academic endeavors, and work settings. They often acquire a social phobia, and are ill at ease in social encounters. Those who do not possess self-confidence may be reluctant to try to set or work toward goal accomplishment; these individuals are sure that they will disappoint. They are convinced that they are not as good or as capable as the people around them. They usually do fail because they have a poor self-image.
Contrastingly, the individual who can gain self confidence will find himself or herself able to correct this painful trend and be able to find healing from this social phobia. Such a person then learns that building self confidence results in remarkable improvements in relationships and academic achievements. On occasion, an employment prospect can even result from steps taken to boost self-confidence.
People sometimes do not build self-confidence for several reasons. Some had domineering parents, or been teased often during their school years. Many struggled academically or socially. Others simply did not have success at making friends or have the reassuring support of peers, parents, or teachers. Frequently, these people struggle with a self-perception of inferiority and uselessness.
Often, those who were unable to build self confidence as children find themselves with significant difficulties in building self confidence in adulthood. They did not learn how to accomplish this, and usually learn only if they seek the aid and support of friends or trained professionals. Too often, people are ashamed to admit that they are hindered by such difficulties, and merely continue to strain throughout their lives.
A variety of treatments can be utilized to assist people to build self confidence. Many types of counseling approaches, such as behavioral therapy or group treatments, may be used to teach clients how to improve self confidence. A wide variety of self-help books have been written to help clients to gain self-confidence. Therapists even offer instructional sessions and retreats designed to aid people increase self confidence.
Although all of these techniques are sometimes helpful, two alternative therapies that are easily learned and quite effective for most of persons who use them are confidence hypnosis and Neuro-Linguistic Programming or NLP. Experts who use confidence hypnotherapy are typically capable of coaching clients to acquire self confidence and greatly improve both their viewpoints and their chances to achieve in life.
Traditional hypnotherapy (utilizing post-hypnotic suggestions) is often quite beneficial. It is most helpful with individuals who are suggestible and easily directed. This treatment typically is ineffective for persons who tend to be methodical or are critical thinkers.
Those described by the latter group, Ericksonian hypnotherapy and NLP strategies are much more successful. These therapies are superb for successfully relating to the subconscious, which is the center of our emotions. This occurs because the resistance typically offered by analytical persons to suggestiveness is bypassed.
An NLP strategy that individuals are frequently taught to build self confidence is known as anchoring. This is a natural experience. For instance, if you hear an old song, and experience feelings of deja vu, it's because the subconscious connected the emotions from a past time, with the notes of the song you were listening to at the time. Therefore, listening again to the music, the unconscious triggers the emotions related to it. In effect, the song anchors those feelings.
Using the technique known as anchoring, individuals are reminded of an instance that allowed them to experience the emotions of confidence. As they remember and re-experience those feelings, they are taught to touch two fingers together. The unconscious then associates the sensations of self-confidence with this behavior. If the patient reports that they have no recollection of ever feeling confident, the person may create a fantasy where he or she does see himself having confidence, and then anchor those feelings of confidence.
Once they've anchored the emotions of confidence, on those occasions that necessitate self-confidence, anchoring triggers the feelings of confidence that are useful in the present situation.
A very useful NLP too known as the "Flash" can be used to immediately replace stressful emotions, which are sometimes related to low self-confidence. With the Flash, the mind uses the mental pictures that create negativity, to trigger mental pictures to create a good emotion.
For instance, the client directs the unconscious to utilize the visual images that trigger feelings of uncertainty, as triggers for visual cues that precipitate perceptions of self confidence. Our mental images trigger our emotions.
Every person has goals, and desires. A number of persons are able to work toward these to achieve their desires. Others, however, allow their lack of self-confidence to defeat them. Although NLP may not work for everyone, the overwhelming majority of persons who try this strategy report astonishing success in increasing self confidence. This strategy is often more beneficial than other techniques for most people.
Summary: Those who lack self-confidence usually find it difficult to succeed in many areas of their lives. A variety of elements cause persons to acquire social phobias or the feeling of incompetence. Many treatment approaches have been developed to help people to build self-confidence. NLP is well-known to be very successful by a large number of people who have tried this strategy.
