Memorization, Retention, And Recollection: The Best Study Techniques
If you are a student who is trying to get better grades, there are a number of methods that will help you to heighten your capability to focus your concentration, absorb the materials that you study, and remember it during an examination without suffering from mental blocks or test anxiety. These are the basics of how to institute good learning habits:
(1) Set aside an environment for study and study only in that place! Find a silent location that will make possible a focusing of attention without distractions. Some possible examples would be a library, a vacant classroom, or your bedroom. You will want to create the routine of studying when you are in this place. So it is best to not use your special place for other activities like daydreaming, socializing, or playing games, etc.
BE SURE YOUR SPECIAL PLACE HAS:
(a) A comfortable chair, but not excessively comfortable
(b) A desk
(c) First class lighting
(d) Good ventilation
BE SURE YOUR SPECIAL PLACE DOES NOT HAVE:
(a) Views of other activities that you will be distracted by
(b) A phone
(c) Loud music
(d) A big screen TV set
(e) A companion who talks too much
(f) A refrigerator filled with distractions
(2) Break up your work into small, short-range goals.
(a) Set up small specific goals like, "I am going to study my history from 2 PM to 3 PM. Otherwise you will only set yourself up to fail.
(b) Set a reachable work goal for the quantity of time you are able to allocate. For example: finish reading chapter thirty in my chemistry book, or complete a rough draft of my biology paper, etc. Set your goals at the time that you are ready to sit down and study, just before you begin. Set reasonable goals. You might possibly do more than reach your goal, but set a reasonable goal even if it seems way too easy.
(3) Test Phobias
(a) Some students experience physical symptoms for the most part, like nausea, feeling hot or cold, headaches, or faintness, etc.
(b) Other students experience emotional symptoms for the most part, like feeling frustrated, irritable, or crying easily.
(c) The main difficulty with anxiousness is that it can make one have a memory block. Or it could make you have thoughts that are racing out of control.
(d) Although you may currently experience some level of anxiousness when taking exams, you can learn to greatly diminish that anxiety, or even completely eliminate it!
(e) Feelings of anxiety and the resultant stress are by and large the main causes of a lack of the ability to focus your attention. Stress can also be the cause of a mental block when you try to remember information.
(f) Hypnosis CD's can be utilized to relax your mind and focus your concentration. As your mind calms down, your ability to stay focused will increase. Similarly, a calm mind enhances your ability to retain information, and recall it when it is needed.
(g) Neuro-Linguistic Programming CD's can also be used to program your mind for the positive expectation of peace and the ability to recall information during an examination. Relaxation is effective at reducing or eliminating test anxiety. There are a number of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) techniques that can rapidly do away with a test phobia!
