The wildly overstated 80's throwback belts that dominated the fashion world in 2007 are as outdated as that unlamented era itself. Now its time for the thin belt, which has attracted the eye of fashionable types fond of the smaller and far more feminine accessories. Extra thin belts can be positioned above wearers' waists to suggest a more slimming profile and can be used with a loosely fitting dress, oversized skit or sweater. Suits are now sporting beltloops to accommodate the new thin belt look.

The corset-sized, rib bruiser belts of 2007 certainly had their appeal, but were found to be lacking when it came to simple comfort. These new, thinner belts are subtler then those of last year, but they boast the same bright colored flair, patterns, and embellishments. Those who pine for an extra long version need not fret: those are available as well and can be looped at the end, in all their '80s glory.

Another must-have accessory is the clutch purse. They are all the rage this year. Fashionable people everywhere seem to be carrying them. I personally love how they instantly dress up any clothing ensemble that I put together. Oversized clutches are not just for formal events anymore. They can go everywhere now.

The large hobo style bags from last year were simply just too heavy and cumbersome, despite the fact that they could hold so many of your personal items. The sizes were simply getting out of control and were approaching the dimensions of overnight bags. It was simply impossible to find the one thing that you needed among the seemingly thousands of items within.

The hot accessories of 2008 are making way down the catwalk and leaving the overstated styles of the past to rest. Accessories have returned to fulfill the duty their name intended: to accent instead of overwhelm. Among the names premiering their trendy belts and clutches are Burberry, Donna Karen, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs and Fendi. But if the pocket book desires a lighter bill of fashion, Forever 21, Steve Madden, or H&M have their own attractive appeal to offer as well.
