New England Clambake Is Easy To Set Up And Lots Of Fun

by Matthew Lewis

A clambake on the beach will be a real treat for anyone who likes to cook lobster meat and other seafood in the traditional way. It is a common way to prepare seafood in the New England coastal areas and is a ritual you will long remember. Begin by digging a pit in the sand. Then place a number of smooth stones in the center of the pit.

After the wood is carefully arranged on top of the rocks, it is allowed to burn down to ashes, which are then carefully removed. The hot rocks do the actual cooking. Make sure that the fire burns out just after the rocks have reached the right temperature. The ashes are swept in between the rocks, so that there is a layer of insulation at the bottom of the pit.

The seaweeds are collected from the shoreline and are piled on these rocks .Then layers of corn in the husks, potatoes, onions, lobsters and clams are added to the pit. Next a layer of seaweed is placed on top, and a canvas wetted in sea water is covered over to confine the heat, and the whole food is steamed for several hours which turn into a flavorsome meal which comprises an unforgettable feast.

Done properly, a New England clambake requires up to twenty four hours to finish. Many individuals like this time investment, but some prefer to sit back and let professionals handle the effort. Please note that a lot of sandy areas have regulations against open fires, requiring the preparation of this meal in a different manner.

Many different preparations of the New England clambake exist, one is cooking it in metal pots and pans, this is called a New England Clam Boil. New England clambake was originally prepared in a rock-lined sand hole, this method predates the settling of the English colonies.

A lobster clambake can be cooked in your yard in a metal can, or in a steamer in your kitchen. Otherwise hire a caterer who may cook it in cooking vessels which are heated by burning. Even you will be able to buy already cooked clambake from a store.

If you enjoy cooking seafood such as lobster meat, mussels, crabs and clams in the traditional method, you will absolutely love clambake on the beach. It takes an entire day to do the cooking for a New England clambake. Some people think its fun to undertake the cooking themselves. Others, however, prefer to hire professional clambake caterers to do the work for them. Most cooks use a large pot for clambake cooking, because many areas won't allow people to build fires on the beaches. A lobster clambake can be cooked in your yard in a metal can, or in a steamer in your kitchen.
