Bump Proof Lock - The Importance Of Protecting Your Family

Even with the safety precaution of locking your front and rear doors it may be creating a false sense of security for you and your loved ones. Lock bumping is a new tool that is becoming very common and dangerous in the security arena. It just takes a few seconds for all of the doors in your neighborhood to be unlocked or opened via the soundless bump keys. The common security lock usage in America is the pin tumbler lock which provides no resistance to lock bumping.

Our current door locking systems originated in the late 1800s and have not been updated since. Bump keys were discovered in the 1970s by locksmiths in Denmark. Eventually, the practice of lock bumping reached American shores with the introduction of the internet. Fortunately, a bump proof lock is now available to the public. You only have to replace your old pin tumbler lock with a new high security lock to protect yourself, your family and your valuables against lock bumping.

Lock bumping keys present a brand new danger for conventional mehanical lock security. Lock bumping keys are relatively easy to create in a very swift and simple manner. Lock bumping keys are utilized by unwanted intruders to open the doors by turning the lock to your residence or company in a few quick seconds.

You don't need to spend $200 to $500 for a bump proof lock as your local locksmith can make your standard lock, a bump proof lock for a few dollars. A new safety product that prevents Bump Key intrusions or any lock picking tool from unlocking a homeowner's security device has been launched.

Some bump keys will work for any lock. A bump key is mostly a blank key that has been filed down to the lowest level in each channel. It will slide into any pin tumbler lock and enable the burglar to get access to your residence in a few seconds.

At times more costly locks are in fact more susceptible and easy to open. Expensive locks will turn more effortlessly after a bump for the reason that they are more accurately machined. Locks made of hardened steel are also easy to open by lock bumping methods, as they will sustain less damage during a bump. For bump key prevention, its advisable to use a cheaper lock as it may not resist the strength of the knock and may not turn.

Even if you feel secure by locking your doors, it could take less than a minute to open your home with a technique called lock bumping. A bump key can unlock conventional mechanical locks in a matter of seconds and the key itself is easily made. But there are bump key prevention systems on the market. A local locksmith can convert a standard lock into a bump proof lock, effectively preventing lock bumping. Do not think an expensive lock will necessarily be safer, they might actually be more susceptible to lock picking because they are more durable.
